Bodega Malma was born as part of a new wine making project development in San Patricio del Chañar, Province of Neuquén. This is a region that comes out of the wine making map and stands out for its high quality wines. Bodega Malma launched its wines into the market in 2004 and since that time it has been exporting its products to the world.
Bodega Malma is owned by the Viola family, pioneers of the whole sub region of San Patricio del Chañar, and passionate about Patagonia and its terroirs.
Together with consulting Enologist Hans Vinding-Diers, we have outlined a product portfolio and are researching on the potential of every micro terroir for different varieties.
San Patricio del Chañar stands out for its unbeatable vine growing features. Given that we are located at 39º south, we have a significant temperature gap, which allows grapes ripe slowly and favors better sugar accumulation, acidity levels, aromas and flavors while constant breezes keep vineyards healthy.
The premium wine making process takes place in our 127 hectares all of which have been planted with different varieties and a sophisticated drip irrigation system. Constant research by enologists and agronomists results in the specific selection of areas where each variety reaches its fullest expression. The varieties planted are mainly: Pinot Noir, Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, but we also have small productions of other grape varieties which are used to create special edition wines.
The architecture of Malma winery combines advanced wine making technology and the aesthetics of the Patagonian landscape. The winery has a capacity of 1,800,00 litres, and merges with the landscape through different taluses that level it off with the mountains locally known as bardas.
The estate occupies 5,800 m², comprising the winery, the offices, Malma Restaurant, Casa Malma (a cozy and small house in which it is possible to stay the night), the wine cellar and the Visitor Area.
The philosophy of the winery is to launch Patagonia to the world as a unique wine producing region.
