Valle de la Puerta was founded in 1994 and in the same year began olive and grape plantations. These plantations now cover 150 hectares / 375 acres for grapes.
The property is located in the Famatina Valley in La Rioja, Argentina. The beautiful Sierra Famatina, a group of mountains that branch off from the impressive Andean chain, extends into the province of La Rioja and reaches a breathtaking height of 6,200 mts. (20,340 ft). Its influence on the growing conditions of the grapes on the valley floor is as profound as the topsoil is deep.
Soil that has been washed down from the mountains over the years has filled the valley bed and raised the vineyards to 1000 metres. (3280 ft) above sea level.
These beautiful snow-capped mountains not only provided a great visual backdrop for the land developments, but also contributed to the area with well-drained topsoil and beautiful water. All these factors create the perfect environment for a microclimate that provides excellent ripening conditions for our fine red and white grapes. Warm days, dry and cold nights and a desert-like topography are part of these environmental qualities.
Among the wonderful quality wines produced by this winery, the Torrontes, Bonarda and Cuvée are simply outstanding.
Today this winery produces 2.2 million litres of wine per year.
